A few grains of Anternite inserted into the reactor of a warship would increase the power of its blasters ten-fold and extend the life of the reactor's fuel from three to twenty years. With less Anternite than a single human could carry, any of the sixteen human inhabited planets could conquer and rule the fifteen others ending the fragile peace between them.
Insert into this equation a human prospecting ship that stumbles into discovering a planet where Anternite litters the surface.
